As well as focusing on specific diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria, BRC also has experience working on other areas of infectious diseases, for example, as the communications consultants for the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), a society that reaches some 33,000 experts and public health practitioners around the world. The topics range across the infectious disease spectrum, from public trust in vaccines, to outbreaks of pandemics and the latest scientific developments in the sector. We also have worked with the Stop TB Partnership and WHO Europe on drug-resistant TB which is growing at an alarming rate in Europe.
Such work complements our experience with malaria and HIV/AIDS, but brings to the fore the fact that the threat of infectious diseases in the West is far from over, and that the public health community must expect the unexpected with infectious diseases, as we have seen with the H1N1 pandemic, the rise in cases of, for example, TB, measles, and the threat from E Coli outbreaks.
Our work includes;
● Managing onsite media centre for the world’s largest conference on infectious diseases (Helsinki, Vienna and Milan) ● Communications audit and communications strategy for ESCMID ● Launch of Stop TB Partnership and WHO Europe Plan of Action on XDR TB● Writing media materials on range of topics from E-Coli to H1N1 ● Press outreach and profiling of the ESCMID to European and global media.
